From Street Struggles to Inspiring Classrooms: The Story of Mim Akter

Some journeys begin in the shadows but end in the brightest of lights.

For Mim Akter, life started with unimaginable challenges. Born into hardship, Mim and her mother often had no choice but to beg on the streets to survive. On top of that, a severe eye condition made even simple daily tasks difficult, leaving her future uncertain and her dreams distant.

But Mim’s spirit was never broken.
When she found Mojar School, a new chapter unfolded. The school not only welcomed her into the world of education but also took care of her medical needs, provided her with nutritious meals, and gave her a safe space to dream without fear.

With encouragement from her teachers, Mim flourished—both academically and creatively. She discovered her talents as a singer whose voice could captivate any audience and as a poet whose words could touch hearts. Every achievement gave her confidence, and every challenge she overcame made her stronger.

Today, Mim is not just a Grade 10 student at Mojar School—she is also a teacher at our Maniknagar Branch. Despite her physical limitations, she now spends her days guiding younger children, passing on the same hope and knowledge that once changed her life.

In Mim’s own words:

“Once, I thought there was no hope for me. Then, Mojar School admitted me and supported me in every possible way. I told Arif Sir that I wanted to become a teacher, and he said that when I turned 18 and passed grade eight, I could. Today, my dream has come true. I am a teacher and a colleague to the very teachers who taught me. I enjoy every moment with my students, and my colleagues are always there to help whenever I face challenges. I am deeply grateful to Mojar School for everything.”
